The Norwegian firm Hæhre AS is one of Scandinavia’s largest contractors and machinery hire companies, with a fleet of over 800 construction machines. In June 2017 Hæhre ordered explosion-proof Hammerglass RABS* solutions for retrofitting to 42 of its Caterpillar excavators to create a safer work environment for their drivers. The excavators equipped with Hammerglass RABS are primarily used for hammering, in areas where there is a risk of large falling stones and undetonated explosives (so-called duds). Hæhre's CEO has announced that in the future Hammerglass will be standard in all new machines.
* Hammerglass RABS consists of a 12-millimeter Hammerglass screen mounted in an explosion-tested steel frame, and a thinner replaceable sacrificial screen.
